Privacy policy
Effective 25 October 2026
In short: the Kettle app collects no personal data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting, and your reminders, places and sounds stay on your phone. This website uses no cookies or analytics. If you write to us through the support form, we use your email address and message only to reply.
This policy covers the Kettle app for iPhone and Android and this website, kettle-reminder.app. Kettle is made by Guntis Jakovins (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the processing described here. Contact: privacy@kettle-reminder.app.
The Kettle app
What we don't collect
Kettle doesn't collect, store on our servers, or share any personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics or usage tracking, no crash reporting service and no advertising identifier. We have no server that receives anything from the app.
What stays on your phone
To work, the app keeps the following on your phone only:
- Your reminders, notes, timers and what you marked done.
- Your places: their names, icons and positions, and the reminders waiting at them.
- Sounds you import or record, and your settings.
- Daily backups of the above, saved as files in the app's folder (on iPhone you can see them in the Files app).
You can delete any of it in the app, and all of it by uninstalling Kettle. If your phone backs up app data (for example iCloud or Google backup), that backup is handled by Apple or Google under your account settings.
When the app connects to the internet
Reminders, whistling and timers never need a connection. The app connects only in these cases:
| When | To | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| You open the map or the place picker | OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), which serves OpenStreetMap map data | Ordinary requests for the map tiles in view. Like any web server, it sees your IP address and which part of the map you look at. Kettle sends no account or device ID. |
| You search for a place | Your phone's own place search: Apple Maps on iPhone, Google's location search on Android | The words you type, and the area of the map. This is handled by Apple or Google under their privacy policies; it doesn't pass through us. |
| You buy Kettle | Apple App Store or Google Play | Handled by your store under its own terms and privacy policy. The app makes no purchase requests of its own, and we never receive your name or payment details. |
Links you open from the app, such as store pages or this website, open in your browser.
Sending and receiving reminders
When you send a reminder, Kettle puts its title, time, notes and the name you chose (if any) into a link, in the part after the “#”. You send the link through the app you pick, such as Messages or WhatsApp, which handles it under its own policy. The link never goes to us. If the other person's phone can't open it in Kettle, it opens kettle-reminder.app/r, where their browser reads the reminder from the link and shows it. Browsers don't send the part after “#” to any server, so we never receive or store it.
Permissions
Kettle asks only for what a feature needs, when you use it. Each can be changed in your phone's settings.
- Notifications (and, on iPhone, alarms; on Android, exact alarms and full-screen alerts): to whistle when a reminder is due.
- Location: only for reminders at a place. Your phone checks, on the phone, whether you arrive at or leave the place. Your position is not sent to us or stored by us. Android asks to allow location all the time, so the check works while Kettle is closed.
- Microphone: only when you record your own reminder sound. Recordings stay on your phone. If you dictate a reminder's name with the microphone button on Android, your phone's own speech service (usually Google's) listens and turns it into text, under its own privacy policy; Kettle receives only the text.
- Calendar and Reminders: only when you ask Kettle to import. It copies upcoming events or open reminders into Kettle and never changes the originals.
- Files: to import a sound file or a backup you pick.
System features
Widgets, Siri and Shortcuts, and the Lock Screen show your reminders. This information passes only between Kettle and your phone's system software.
Children
Kettle is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
This website
Hosting and visits
kettle-reminder.app is served by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and we don't build visitor profiles.
The support form
If you send a message through the support form, we process:
- the email address you give, and your name if you give one;
- your topic, phone and app version if you choose them, and your message;
- the approximate country of your connection and the time you sent it.
Why and on what basis: to read and answer your request and to improve Kettle. We rely on your consent, which you give with the checkbox on the form (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by writing to us, and we will delete your message.
How it reaches us: the message is checked and passed on by Cloudflare's email routing and delivered to the developer's Gmail mailbox, operated by Google.
How long we keep it: for as long as we need to handle your request and any follow-up, and no longer than 24 months, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Spam protection
The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated spam. Turnstile checks signals from your browser (for example how it behaves and technical device characteristics) without showing puzzles in most cases, and doesn't use them for advertising. This is in our legitimate interest in keeping the form free of abuse (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). See Cloudflare's privacy policy and the Turnstile privacy addendum.
Who else processes data
We don't sell or share personal data. These providers process it on our behalf or under their own terms, as described above:
- Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, email routing and spam protection.
- Google LLC: the Gmail mailbox that receives support messages; place search on Android; Google Play.
- Apple Inc.: place search on iPhone; the App Store.
- OpenFreeMap: the map tiles, with data from OpenStreetMap contributors.
Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. You can also ask us to restrict processing, object to it, or provide your data in a portable form, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to privacy@kettle-reminder.app or use the support form. We answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Because the app keeps everything on your phone, we hold no app data about you. Deleting the app's data on your phone, or uninstalling it, removes it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date above. Material changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
